The Department of American Countries is a structural subdivision of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, responsible for developing state policy in the sphere of economic cooperation with American countries, as well as with international organizations and regional associations which involve them.

Within its competence, the Department performs the following functions:

  • developing state policy in the sphere of economic cooperation with American countries, as well as with international organizations and regional associations which involve them;
  • organizing cooperation, according to the established procedure, with the government agencies of American countries, international organizations and regional associations which involve them, on matters of foreign economic cooperation;
  • coordinating the activities of federal executive agencies on cooperation with international organizations and regional associations which involve American countries on matters of economic policy;
  • monitoring and analyzing the measures of economic and trade policy in American countries and their influence on the socioeconomic development of the Russian Federation;
  • ensuring the performance of the Russian sections of intergovernmental commissions on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation between the Russian Federation and American countries, as well as their secretariats;
  • overseeing the performance of Russia’s trade representations in American countries.
